How to make a Necron Power Station (part 3)

So onto the last part in this little series of posts on how I made my Necron Power Station...

So with the Power Generators magnetised, I thought it would be pretty cool if I could take the generators out of the building, and then replace them with some rubble instead, just to mix up the piece of terrain a little. This was easily done with a few cardboard bases with matching magnets to the floor of the building, and then covering those boards with rubble.

You will probably also spot that I have a magnet on the side of the piece above as well, and that is so that I can magnetise the section to the outside of the building for the times that the Power Generators are in place. All of the rubble is designed to be fairly flat so that the minis are able to stand on the piece. I also added some rubble to the main building along with some sand and more glyph to finish it all off...

How to make a Necron Power Station (part 2)

OK, so in the first post I went over making the foundations for this piece of terrain, and now it's time to look at the power generators themselves...

My generators are made from four Incredible toys that I got from McDonald's about ten years ago! I know that you are not going to be able to get hold of these yourself anymore, so I will let you come up with your own design to stand in for what I am using. Hopefully this post will give you some inspiration to do that...

First it was back to my Laser Cut Card 'off cuts' tub and my Bitz box. Using some Glyph and more Monolith biz, I managed to come up with this design, nothing special as it stands, but once they are painted up they look good enough...

Right, back to the building, and now I am thinking that I want to make this piece of terrain a little more 'interchangeable' with the option to remove the power generators as and when I want to. This was easily done with a few magnets on the feet and on the base of the foam board...

I will take a look at all the finishing touches in the last part of this mini series...

How to make a Necron Power Station (part 1)

In this post I will show you some progress pictures and a few explanations of how I made the Necron Power Station for my Terrain Square Competition...

First I started with a foam board square. I am using a random piece of foam board I had, so it has some images on it, but it is the same stuff that you can buy from your local hobby shop. Once I had the square ready, I worked on my plans for the piece of terrain...

I decided to make a ruined building for my board, as I am lacking in that field a bit. I also wanted a second level to the piece to give me some height as well. First, I started by making two large side walls for one corner. I just got the rough shape at this stage...

Then it was time to get my secret weapon out for this project, and these were something that I have kept for a long time. Four Incredible toys that I got from McDonalds about ten years ago! I know that you are not going to be able to get hold of these yourself anymore, so I will let you come up with your own design to stand in for what I am using, but these will end up as the power generators for my power station...

Now it is time to go back to the foam board and start making the rest of the walls for the building, along with cutting out a couple of holes for a door and a portal in the floor. I plan on using a few old bitz of Monolith that I have to make it a bit more Necron like as well. I have glued some of the Necrons bitz in, but I will only glue the green portals once it is all painted up...

Now to my tub of Laser Cut Card Cyborg Glyph, 'off cuts'. Just in case you haven't heard of Laser Cut Card before, I seriously suggest that you go and check out their website here to see all the amazing terrain products that they sell...

Using this Glyph and a few pieces of cardboard, I first made a door for my portal, using the Necron Monolith design for inspiration. Then I put some some of the bigger 'off cuts' onto the walls...
