Nick speaking,
I had a lot of fun building and magnetising my new Necron flyer, so I thought I would share how I did it with you. The first thing you will notice is the instruction book tells you to glue in the driver and paint him up before gluing it all together. I would actually recommend that you take that one step further and paint the driver before you even glue him in, there are some areas which will be difficult to get to if you did it the GW way. I would also suggest you paint the other sections of the cockpit areas as well, like the sides and rear, before putting it all together. It's worth noting that the wings will need to be glued together with the mid section as it is difficult to get them in after...
So, now we have the main body done it's time to look at magnetising. I built the Death Ray and Portal as per the instruction book. The only exception was the two front pieces of the Death Ray gun that cover the front part of the it, which I left off for ease of painting. Both of these sections fit perfectly into the Scythe without having to magnetise them, which is great. They just push in and fit in place without falling out, but you can still easily pull them out if you want to...
Next is the Teslar Destructors, I wanted to magnetise them so that I would be able to take them off if the Scythe received a weapon destroyed result. I used some 2x1mm magnets, cut out and drilled a couple of holes for them to sit into, and then glued them into place. They say pictures speak a thousand words, so this is how I magnetised them...
Job done, one interchangeable Doom Scythe...
and Night Scythe...
Now all I have to do is mask up the painted bits so that I can spray on the base coat and get it painted up!
