It's been a while since my buddy got out his Orks against me, as he has been playing with his Blood Angels for quite some time now. I arrived at his house with the Necron Doomsday list I recently posted about, to try it out for the first time. As usual, we rolled off and got Annihilation, which seems to happen to us most of the time. Here is a reminder of my list with my magnetised Doomarks, before I switch them over to the more permanant Ghost Ark position, for future games...

Great report mate, looked a VERY close game that went down the wire! Wraith have always impressed me, well, not so much against halberd toting Paladins :p
ReplyDeleteThanks mate, Yeah it was close, I would have never come back without the Wraiths, not sure the Destroyer Lord was worth it with them, will have to try again. I can see that these pesky Orks are going to be a problem for my Crons, they are so fast across the board and with those annoying Kommandos coming from any edge, ouch. There isn't much shooting time for me and once I am in the assault I'm all done.
ReplyDeleteOrks aren't really effected by one of the strengths of the Crons, Solar Pulse, against basically every other army, 2 pulses basically ruins there day! But against Orks, they'll just be running at you.
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing that can be done to stop Kommandos, they are a pain in the ass (litterally) along with Wolf Scouts, the only just you can do is try to force them to come in a position of weakness, this means leaving a bait unit(s) for them to hit, go through and then you can react, by that I mean counter with a squad of wraiths.
I've come to the conclusion that all you can do is accept this is going to happen, you cannot stop it, so plan around it. for me, this usually means leave a dread somewhere tempting, the kommandos/w scouts hit it, take it out and I shoot them to death.
What's the low down then, Nick? What was the Ork list?
ReplyDeleteNo prob, the Ork list was something liken this:
ReplyDelete1 x Trukk with Thraka, 5x Nobz a FNP dude
1 x Trukk with 4x Mega Nobs and a Big Mek
20 x Shoota Boyz
20 x Assault Boyz
17 x Rocket Boyz
10 x Kommandos and Snikrot
10 x Lootas
We were playing annihilation and I started well taking out Thraka's Trukk and then killing a number of Nobs with the Doom Arks. After that though, the Orks were on top of me and rapidly started to wipe me out. I was 3-8 KP's down with just the Overlord, his barge and the Wraiths left. The barge and Overlord got one kill point each back before the Barge was destroyed, and the Wraiths once again were amazing, getting four kill points before the game ended on turn seven, nine KP's each for a draw. I had the Overlord and two Wraiths left and the Orks had the Lootas and one unit of Boyz!
I am surprised you drawn. Your list is much better than the ork list. Kommandos would be a pain for you with those dumbsday arks lol. The ork list needs more cohesion, not enough mech and in weak mech too.

I just didn't have enough time to bear my guns before he was on top of me, and Solar pulse was useless as they were running anyway =)
ReplyDeleteAye, foot ork lists with ghaz are quick with the auto 6" waaaagh!
