First Ever Painting Competiton Results!

When I heard that my local GW store was having a painting competition, I thought to myself, hell, why not. I have never entered a real painting competition before, only a couple via YouTube, but it is always hard to judge with just pictures, so for me they don't really count. There were two categories, large miniature and single miniature. I had my Avatar in the first category and was very happy to find out that it placed third, with the competition being tied in first place, I sort of got second! lol

I tried my reverse highlighted Shadow Spectre in the single miniature competition, but he failed to place. I was told that the standard was really high, and that there was a Golden Daemon painter there that also didn't place, so I can't really complain! Sadly I was working on the day of the competition, so I didn't get time to stay and see all the entries, overall all though, I found it exciting and won myself a voucher for the store to paint up a piece of terrain for me, so I was happy...

Forge World Avatar Painted

After completing the gemstones and highlighting the purple, I went in a did the tabard. I wanted the tabard to be a nice clean white colour to match the rest of my army, so I just washed it with grey and then brought the raised areas back up to white. The hair was painted Warlock Purple and dry brushed white, I then hit it with a purple wash. I really enjoyed the forty one hours it took me to paint this mini, and I am very happy with the end result...

Forge World Avatar Painting Challenge (part 5)

With all the lava now painted, it's time to move to the details. I started off basing the purple and golds and then moved straight onto the spear. Considering I don't own an air brush, I was very happy with the result on the spear and he is really taking shape now. Next will be to highlight the purple and do the gemstones...

Continuing on with painting my Avatar, and I have now finished the lava effects all over the mini. Once I had done all the blending as discussed in the previous post, I did some white spot highlights on the yellow recesses. Still lots more to do, but it's getting there now...

Forge World Avatar Painting Challenge (part 3)

More work on the Avatar and I have now gone in a started the lava effects. The pictures don't really show it off in it's full glory, but I think it gives you a good idea of where I am going with it. I blended in from the edge with Scab Red, 1:1 Scab Red/Blood Red, 1:1 Blood Red/Troll Orange and a final Troll Orange highlight. Still plenty of work to do, but first I need to bring all the Lava up to this level...

Forge World Avatar Painting Challenge (part 2)

Just a little update on the Avatar Painting Challenge. I started with a couple of different shades of yellow on the body, with a very light red wash to give it some depth, but not too heavy to turn it orange. I then went over the armour with black. The next stage will be to blend the edges of the armour using red, orange and yellow. I also had to take the head, hair and tabard off, as it was hard to paint with them on. I have started painting the hair, it looks a bit bright at the moment, but by the time I dry brush it white and wash it purple, it should match the rest of my army.

Forge World Avatar Painting Challenge (part 1)

After having my Forge World Avatar for five years or so, it's time to finally get it painted. I know it still has issues on the table, that haven't been resolved by the new Codex, but as it was voted to be the next unit for me to paint by my YouTube subscribers, the challenge has been set!

Updated Eldar Painting list!

When 6th Edition came out, I posted about a new painting list I had planned. I have completed a fair few units from that list and indeed some extra ones as well, like my Fire Dragons, so I am happy with my progress. Now that the new Eldar Codex has hit though, things are just about to be shaken up again.

For my new painting list, I decided to select the units I want to paint and let my subscribers on my YouTube Channel decide what order I will paint them in. It was very close at the top, with the Avatar and Warp Spiders scrapping it out for the top spot. So, I will start at the top of the list and then see what happens from then on. I will also be painting my Gothic stuff as well, of course!

Here is the final list that my subscribers have selected for me to paint next, I know the Avatar is not that great on the table, but the allure of a Forge World model seems to have done the trick...

My Forge World Avatar

It's been a while since I felt the excitement of ordering my Forge World Avatar! I remember all the saving up for it, and then placing the order with a massive smile on my face. I also remember the feeling I had when it eventually came through the post, and the joy of building, converting and magnetising it. Since then, it has been sitting around in my case for quite some time, and I have only just realised that I haven't shown it on my Blog yet!

So here are a few pictures of this very awesome looking model, I got myself a resin base to further enhance it, although I had to do some work to get it to fit on, as you can see below. I also magnetised the spear for storage purposes. I will be painting it up at some point, but until then...
