My Necron List for the Last Chance Open Tournament at WarGames

Nick speaking,

So here it is, the official list that I took to the recent Last Chance Open Tournament at WarGames. More to come on the event very soon, but what I will say is that it was totally awesome, and if you haven't checked out WarGames yet then please do so HERE on their facebook page, HERE on their YouTube Channel, and HERE on their website, where you will find loads of great deals.

The tournament is an ITC event, but for this one it uses single faction restrictions. Fine for me, as that's how I like to play anyway. As always, I like to take something a bit different with my lists, and decided to play a full on multiple small unit Necron army. 'Boo Hoo' was all I could come up with as a name for the army, as it was the only thing I could get to rhyme with MSU, sort of! Anyway, here is the list, More to come soon...

Necron Boo Hoo List (1850pts)

My First 40K Tournament - The List!

Nick speaking,

Back to my first Tournament, The Pompey Pillage which is coming up in August. As I previously posted, there are a few things to take into consideration when it comes to making a list for this event, including some restrictions on what you can take. Taking that and the fact that it's my first ever tournament into account, I have decided to taker my beloved Necrons, and of course, knowing me, my first thoughts are towards a Flayed One based list!

I have a 2k list based around six units of Flayed Ones, but this event is only 1800 points, and coupled with the restrictions, it was impossible to take all sixty Flayed Ones. To be fair, I even struggled to get four units of Flayed Ones in the list. It could have been done, but I would then have to drop one Canoptik Harvest formation, and the whole army works around having two of those, so three units of Flayed Ones it is!

I am not expecting to win the event with the army, or even to do that well, but I know the army pretty well and how it works, plus Necrons are pretty resilient and forgiving at the moment, so hopefully I will have a chance of taking a couple of games. Either way, I am going for the experience first and foremost, and it should be a lot of fun. Here is my list at the moment, I really would be happy to receive any feedback you may have.

Flayed Cron Decurion Detachment (1800pts)

Reclamation Legion Formation

1 x Overlord/Shroud/Shifter (140)
9 x Immortals (153)
2x 10 x Warriors (260)

Auxilary
10x Flayed Ones (130)

6 x Canoptek Wraiths/Whip coils (258)

Necron Living Tomb Decurion List

Nick speaking,

So now I have my Living Tomb Formation painted, I need a list for it! It's an interesting formation with three big tanks clocking up seven hundred points, so we are going to have to make full use of the formations special rules for sure. Of course, you only need one Monolith to make this formation, but for me it's all about the visuals, so I want to max out on the tanks...

The first thing to look at is the Obelisk, which along with the two Monoliths have to stay in reserve and deep strike in. The Obelisk comes out automatically on turn two, which is great, sadly it does scatter though. The small flyer base it's on should make it a little easier to not mishap and with your fingers crossed you should make it into battle turn two

As for the Monoliths, if you deep strike them in within twelve inches of the Obelisk you don't scatter, which for a six inch square base is great. Having said that, the Monoliths still have to roll a dice to come out of reserve. This brings me onto my HQ choice for the army, Nemesor! On turn two we will adapt his tactics and take the Warlord trait that adds one to our reserve rolls. Now everything in the army is coming out turn two on anything but a one. Nemesor is in the Decurion attachment, and with less numbers on the table due to the points spent on the tanks, we are going to need that 4+ RP roll

The other special rule of the formation is that once the Monoliths are down, you can immediately teleport a unit through each Monoliths door form reserve! Like I said at the start, I am going for the visual of how this army is going to look on the table, and for me, you can't get much more epic looking than twenty Warriors teleporting out of each Monolith right after they deep strike in. A couple of Immortal units will have to weather the storm on the table with some Tomb Blades until the formation arrives. Five Immortals to just hide and Ten Immortals to go with Nemesor. That leaves me with a few points left over for an addition deep striking distraction unit!

Enter the Transcendent C'tan, and why not, I have just painted him, and I think he will work well as the distraction unit in this army. Overall, I think this list is going to be a lot of fun and look really cool on the table...

Living Tomb Decurion List 1

Reclamation Legion
1x Nemesor (150)
10x Immortals (170)
5x Immortals (85)
20x Warriors (260)
20x Warriors (260)
5 x Tomb Blades/Beamers/Vanes/Scopes (120)

1 x Transcendent  C’Tan (250)

Living Tomb Formation
1 x Obelisk (300)
1 x Monolith (200)

Points 1995

Ten points left to play with, but for now the list is locked and loaded ready for some action. Battle Report coming soon, but if you have any comments or suggestion on the list please feel free to let me know.

Flayed One Final List for first game with BlackToad Studio

Nick speaking,

One of the things I love about my Blog and YouTube Channel is the ability to find other fellow gamers and hobbyists that I would never have found without the internet. The greatest thing though, is when you have a chance to actually play a game of 40k with that person. I have already played Aceface, Commissar Warwick and the boys from Table Top Banter, but now it's time to test my gaming skills against Dom from Black Toad Studio
To be fair, Dom and I are just having a friendly game and I am very much looking forward to see his nicely painted army on my gaming table. Of course, I don't know which army I will be facing, but you can see all the great armies on the Black Toad YouTube Channel, so it's well worth checking out if you haven't done so already. As for me, I plan on taking my full and final 2k Necron Flayed One themed army...

Yes, after a lot of tweaks and changes, I finally have what I would consider a final army, well, until GW change the rules again. To be honest, there isn't much change from my previous list, The only change is splitting up the sixty Flayed Ones into six units of ten rather than three units of twenty. I do love the idea of the big units I had, and seeing them on the table was fun, but six smaller units will be a lot better on the table when it comes to mission objectives, especially in Maelstrom games. Dom and I will roll off to see what type of mission we will play on the day, but either way, I think this list will cope with both mission types pretty well...

My Las Vegas Open Game - Necron List!

Nick speaking,

Continuing on from my previous post and the practice game I am having with my buddy Aceface on his journey to the Las Vegas Open this year, and it's time to reveal my army list!

First off all, I really want to try out a few new things with this list. I love my Necrons, but I have only been playing a few units lately, mainly because of the points needed for the Decurion, but also because, well, lets face it, the Canoptek Harvest is almost too good to not play. I usually play Wraiths and Ace knows all about them and how to deal with them, So like I said, this new list is going to be a bit different...

I am going to bolt on a Destroyer Cult Formation to the Reclamation Legion. I know that most of Aceface's Tau army has a 2+ save and this may not be the best choice, but just a side note on that. I am not making a list specifically to beat HIS army. I want the list to have elements of what I think he might see at the event, and to give him some experience of it on the table. It is just a practice game after all! Besides, I will have three Heavy Destroyers for some AP2 busting, and the two Stormsurges he has will only get their 4++ against the Destroyers.

I also want to play my Necrons a little different than I normally do on the table, I want to be ultra aggressive with them. Ten Sword and Board Lychguard with a Solar Staff Cryptek, Vargard and two Overlords with Warscythes. This unit will teleport turn one, pop the staff off and hopefully put the Tau on the backfoot. The unit will have a 3++ save, a 4+ RP roll (even with instant death thanks to Technomancer) and they get to re-roll the failed RP rolls of a one thanks to the Overlord. The unit is very survivable and has three Warscythes to boot for some decent killing power, all be it at initiative two. The other great thing about the unit is that I get to use my old Pariah models!

Lastly for the list, again, something I want to try out and should be a pain on the table! A small unit of Deathmarks for the Destroyer Lord in the Cult to deep strike in with. IF I can deep strike in during the Tau turn, then perfect. The Deathmarks can shoot, and then in my turn the Destroyer Lord is free to come away from the unit and then assault something with his Void Reaper. The Deathmarks are there as a delivery system for the Lord more than anything, but I think this little unit should combine with the Lychguard unit nicely

Right, so here is the list, this is going to be fun...

New Necron Flayed One Decurion List!

Nick speaking,

After upgrading my Super Phalanx list to incorporate two Canoptek Harvests, and being very happy with the results. I thought it was time to go back to my Flayed One themed army and give it the Harvest treatment. My previous list did have two harvest formation in it, but at the time I only had six Wraith models. Well, now I have twelve Wraiths, so lets see what we can come up with...

As always with a themed list like this, there will always be a lot of points tied up in the themed side of the army, which in my case is sixty Flayed Ones! Couple that with two Canoptek Harvests, and there really isn't a lot of points left over, even at two thousand points. That's fine though, as it's all part of the fun of the army, and the Harvest formations and Decurion rules fit in so well with this assault based army that the restrictions I have set upon myself will be well worth while.

OK, so to fit in the Flayed Ones and two Harvest formations, I have had to go for some minimum sized units to compensate. That means a basic Overlord for an HQ and the minimum points I can spend on the rest of the Reclamation Legion units I need for the Decurion. That means minimum sized Scarab squads too, but the Wraiths should compensate for that quite nicely...

Pretty happy how this is looking, it has a few weaknesses of course, but I am sure the army will be as fun as it always is to play!

Commissar Warwick Challenge Game

Nick speaking,

I am very pleased to say that I have managed to arrange a 40k challenge game with Commissar Warwick, in his 'Challenge The Commissar' series of battle reports over on his YouTube Channel. Warwick is an awesome guy and has some great content on his Channel, especially for Blood Angels, Imperial Guard (Astra Militarum) and Tyranids, so please go and give him a sub to show your support.

We have set the points level at two thousand points and that is pretty much it, so I have no idea which army Warwick will play. As we are playing on my Necron terrain and I have recently updated my Super Phalanx army list, I thought it would be cool if I played that army against him.

My new Wraith Super Phalanx list was for seventeen fifty points, so I needed to up it to two thousand, not too many problems there, as the list was lacking in a bit of anti air anyway. The Immortals now have a Night Scythe, and with a bit of a jiggle with the unit sizes of the rest of the army we are good to go!

Necron Wraith Super Phalanx!

Nick speaking,

Having got myself a second unit of Wraiths specifically for my big 3k game with Aceface, I think it's about time I made use of them in a smaller game as well. After all, I know how much my buddies love playing against Wraiths!

As the Wraiths are pretty tough and very resilient, especially in the Decurion. I thought two units of them would sit in quite well to my Super Phalanx list concept, which you can read all about here. Basically an advancing Phalanx of very difficult to kill Terminator T-800 Necrons. Don't you just love Necrons!

At seventeen fifty points, two Canoptek Harvests are going to take up quite a few of them. So, it's going to have to be minimum Scarab units. The Reclamation Legion has to have a big unit of Warriors, two Ghost Arks and a durable HQ to keep the Super Phalanx theme going. No choices there really, the Deathmarks and Monolith get dropped for the extra unit of Wraiths and Tomb Blades have to go down to the minimum quantity as well.

Here is my final list, let me know what you think, battle report to follow soon

No More Necron Decurion? Bino List!

Nick speaking,

So yeah, I have been really enjoying the Necron Codex and making lists with the Decurion Detachment. My sucess has been great and my different army lists within the Decurion have been performing very well indeed. So much so, that I am now thinking I would like to move away from the Decorion Detachment cheese and start to inject some fun into my lists and maybe even up the battlefield with my friends, who lets face it, must be getting annoyed with the resilience of the new Necrons!

Now, originally I was just going to make a list without using the Decurion, but what the hell, how about making a list randomly, you know, let the dice gods decide what units I take! I want to keep the army bound, so will start by rolling for my HQ and two Troops, including their transports, and then roll for the rest of the army from there, Bingo style! I will post a video of me doing the random draw, just in case your interested, or don't believe me lol

Super Phalanx Decurion List

Nick speaking,

Time to bring my 'Super Phalanx' list concept into the Decurion, and for those of you that are not aware of the concept behind the list, it is pretty simple. The core is based around one big blob of Warriors and an Overlord, backed up by a couple of Ghost Arks. This use to be pretty hard to take down with RP rolls and then repair barge, but now with the Decurion Special rules, they just got a whole lot better!

So what makes them better? OK, so the unit isn't as good in the assault without the faithful Stormtek and Mind Shackle Scarabs from the Overlord, but the unit got a lot more resilient. 4+ RP rolls, re-rolling the ones plus repair barge from two Ghost Arks. these guys are going to be hard to take down, especially now the RP roll is done after you take a wound!

I have to do a bit of a change around with the rest of the army to fit it in with the Decurion restrictions, but adding in the Canoptek Harvest to get me more RP rolls within the army should bode well. I am really happy how the list is looking, but please feel free to let me know your thoughts. Battle reports to follow soon...

The 3k Game: Making the List

Nick speaking,

So, back to my three thousand point game that I have arranged with my good buddy Aceface. Just as a quick reminder, Aceface is a huge Tyranid collector and an awesome guy who really knows his Tyranid tactics, so please check him out on his YouTube Channel if you haven't already. OK, so in the first post I revealed that I was going to play my sixty strong Necron Flayed One themed army, and those of you that follow my Blog will know that my current two thousand point list consists of two Canoptik Harvests, but with only three Wraiths in each Harvest. Not through choice, but through only having six Wraiths in my collection...

First thing I did then was find six more Wraiths, all second hand and some of them broken, but they were cheap and nothing I couldn't fix up. These guys just need a quick paint job and they are ready to rumble, whcih of course means that I am going for two Harvests in my list along with the sixty Flayed Ones...

Having not played larger games before, there was no way I was going to let the chance for me to play my Necron Pylon slip bye. I have had this thing for over ten years and it has only ever been fielded as a piece of terrain. I don't know how good it is on the table, but it is in the list regardless...

Now is was just a case of filling out the Reclamation Legion slots to make sure I got all the benefits it offers, a 4+ RP, Move Through Cover and Relentless, nice :) You will notice that I don't have any transports, and that is mainly to give me the points to hoard out and keep the theme of how the list works the same as at 2k, this is going to be interesting!

The 3k Game: Intro

Nick speaking,

It's been a very long time since I played a game bigger than two thousand points, as I usually play in the evening and that's about the maximum points we can squeeze in. So, when I arranged a game with my good buddy Aceface to be played during the day, we thought it would be cool to play a bigger game for some fun. We didn't want to go all Apocalypse, just a normal mission but more points, so we agreed to play at three thousand points. I met Aceface via his YouTube Channel and I have previously had the pleasure of playing against his Nids and his awesome Nid Knight conversion! He is a fantastic guy, and he really knows his Tyranid tactics, so don't forget to check him out and give him a sub.

So, what army to play? Well, Aceface is a pretty competitive player, and he likes to play in tournaments and bring on the cheese, whereas I am more of a basement player as such. The last time we matched up, I lost with both my Eldar to his Chaos army and my Necrons to his NIds, in particular, my sixty strong Flayed One army. Both games were very fun indeed, and I had a blast even though I lost. Of course, I now have a new Necron Codex and things have changed up quite a bit for the Crons and Flayed Ones. Time to get some revenge with the Flayed Ones me thinks, but at three thousand points, what will Aceface bring to the table, after all, he has over twenty thousand points of Nids to choose from!

Find out my army list in the next post!

New Flayed One Themed Decurion Army

Nick speaking,

Time to have another look at my Necron Flayed One Themed Army once again and see what I can do with it with the new Codex! With Flayed Ones getting a nice buff with an extra attack and the Shred special rule, I have to say I am very excited about my army now. Not only that but with the new Decurion Attachment availble to me, my sixty Flayed Ones can have a 4+ RP roll without having to have a Destroyer Lord joined to them.

With no points change to the Flayed ones, I will start with the Reclamation Legion part of the list, and particulary the Canoptek Harvest Formation, which has the units I need to make the list work just as it did before. As a recap, that was two units of Scarabs and a unit of Wraiths to move up with the Flayed Ones who infiltrate forward. The whole list is about the Flayed Ones, so all the Scarabs and Wraiths are there just for the distraction.

To keep the same units in my list will mean two Harvest Formations, and although I would love to have two units of six Wraiths, I only have six models in my collection, so that has dictated that I will have to go for two units of three for now. I will still run them side by side as if they were one unit on the table, and they will work with the two larger units of Scarabs. Of course, the Spyders will be issuing them all with RP for as long as possible.

This brings me onto the Reclamation Legion Detachment. Previously I was using the bare minimum of troops so that the points can be put into the front ranks to make the list work, but now I will have to take two ten man Warrior squads and five Immortals. I also have to take Tomb Blades, which I am fine with, they are super cheap now and will work well with the list giving me a little up front shooting.

Now, with the two additional Spyders, increased points on the Scarabs, more Warriors and the Tomb Blades, I really do not have many points left for my HQ! I used to take Imotekh as my HQ, taking advantage Night Fight, but at the moment I can't see how I can get him into the list. So with the few points I have left I will just run with a very basic Overlord. He won't do much except sit at the back with the Immortals and Warriors and try and give those re-rolls of failed RP rolls of a one as best he can.

Right, this is how the list now looks, I can't wait to get it on the table and try it out. Battle report to follow...

Transcendent C'tan Cron List

Nick speaking,

I am sure there is no Necron player that isn't a little bit tempted to play this bad boy at some point, and I am no exception! Yes, it is time to get my recently converted Transcendent C'tan into an army list and start having some fun! This will be in no way my standard go to Necron list, as I think my buddies will not play with me for too long if I keep pulling him out of the bag. We don't normally bring Super Heavy type units to the table, but even so, it has to be done...

So yeah, I haven't equipped him with apocalyptic/D weapons, as they are not going to be needed for what I am up against, but even so, he has a lot of destroying power. The rest of the army is all meched up, with two small units of Warriors in Ghost Arks, a couple of Crypteks and an Overlord. Of course, The Veiltek will go into the Night Scythe with the Deathmarks, and the Monolith will deep strike in just in case I need to get the C'tan across the board a little quicker. Here is the final list, let me know what you think...

Necron Flayed One 7th Edition Army

Nick speaking,

Time to look at my sixty strong Flayed One themed army for 7th Edition!

So first, lets have a look at my old list, and I have to say that I have been very happy with how my list has performed, to the point that I have never lost a game with it. It's interesting to note that none of my games have made full use of all sixty Flayed ones, with at least one of the units pretty much doing nothing on the table every game except looking pretty, well, pretty mean, but that is part of how the list works with so many big targets in your face...

1x Destroyer Lord/MSS/Weave/Orb (190)

Just to re-cap on the tactics, the three Flayed One units infiltrate and the fast moving Wraiths and Scarabs are there to move up with them turn one. I try to take first turn, which with Imotekh is fairly easy, and he stays at the back with the troops. The Destroyer Lord is the wild card of the list and works with the Wraiths and the beginning of the game and moves to the Flayed Ones or splits off as and when it is needed.

Now, I always wanted to have the Scarab units maxed out and whip coils on all the Wraiths, but the odd Wraith Wargear and smaller Scarab units, were the best I could do to give me the points for all the troops that were needed in 6th! Of course, things are different now, and although troops have great advantages for scoring, the fact that the rest of my army can now score, even the Scarabs, means that I feel I can reduce the blob of Warriors down and still make the list work.

With reference to an unbound army, I am thinking that I will take the Flayed Ones in this direction at some point, but for now, I just want to go with the standard set up until I get a few games of 7th under my belt with the army. So, with that said, my starting point is going to be the Scarabs, and beefing up the units to ten is going to be really great for the army. They work really well with this assault based list, along with the Flayed Ones and Wraiths, which will now have Whip Coils on all of them.

Right, now to sort the Warrior Blob out, and with a reduction in troop units, I think it might be wise to put Imotekh in with some Immortals for the 3+ saves, with a couple of small Warrior 'body guard' units either side of him for a bit of protection. Imotekh is still currently in the list, Night fight is nice, and his Lightening attacks is great fun, plus I still have the option to safely deep strike and unit of Flayed Ones if I want, so for now he is staying...

I will have a battle report coming soon for you with this list in action, but please feel free to make any suggestions or if you have any ideas for how an unbound Flayed One army would look, I would be very interested to hear them in the comments section below.
