Army List Clinic on IDICBeer

Rob speaking,

Welcome to our brand new IDICBeer Army List Clinic, this is going to be a regular segment on the Blog, where myself and Nick will take army lists that are in need of help, in hope that we can ‘fix’ them for our readers. A selection of the lists will be posted on the Blog and we will aim to reply to as many lists as possible via email.
Obviously, the clinic is going to require some support to get it going and this is where you guys come in. Please email your lists to us that are in need of a bit of help with a brief summary of what your current tactics are, and where you feel the list is struggling. We will then try our best to remedy your problems and generally help improve the list in question. All lists are welcome, be it fun, competitive, themed or just the models you have! We will aim to first improve the list through tactics and then through any changes that are necessary. Please email your lists to...

IDICBeer is Back!

Nick speaking,

So, here I am all back up and running again, with a brand new Blog template. The change was a lot of work and to be honest only went as smoothly as it did because I had some (a lot) of help from a very kind wiz kid colleague of mine (thank you very much Bill). Overall I am very happy with the end results and really happy I made the change. Hopefully you all like it too, and more importantly, you find using it a lot easier, especially on your smart phones. Thanks for all your support and lets continue on with some more 40k posts...

A New Year, A New Author!

Rob speaking,

Some of you may know me from my Blog Embolden40k which I can no longer maintain due to lack of time, but I still want to write and after a cheeky email to Nick to allow me to guest write for his Blog, here I am!

But for those of you who don’t know me, hello!

I’ve been playing 40k on and off for about 10 years! I played Eldar for a large portion of this time, in fact it was last year I stopped using my Eldar. I dropped them in favour of Grey Knights, I know, I jumped on the band waggon, I used my Paladins up until the last set of FAQs where they took away the Characters rule from the Paladin squads so essentials removed the rule that made them viable in a highly competitive list. So I moved onto Imperial Guard with Space Wolves Allies, after facing a list I really liked at Battlefield Birmingham, this list has my own twist though.

Last year I started to attend tournaments for the first time, after listening to the 40kuk podcast, which inspired me to sign up for Caledonian in January 2012, since then I have attended about 5 tournaments throughout the year, winning 1 with Paladins and coming 4th after playing for the win in the last game, plus some respectable finishes, I ended the year ranked 54 in the UK, not too shabby if I blow my own trumpet.

Since then I have been playing for fun while I amassed the horde of guardsman needed to make the army I wanted, although I have had no time to blog due to work and building/painting Warpath Corporation guard, I have still been able to play a number of games at the gaming club I attend every Tuesday night. I have also signed up for Caledonian (which takes place in 2 weeks) and Battlefield Birmingham in February.

So that's what I have planned gaming wise as for Blogging, well I enjoy writing tacticas, unit reviews, army lists, battle reports and tournament reports, so expect plenty of these! I do paint, but not a good standard, 3 basic colours and a wash... that's about as good as it gets...so I think I'll be leaving this sort of stuff to Nick who is a great painter, just check out his stuff here!

So there you go, a little about myself and what I have planned for the next few months, I look forward to talking to you on the Blog posts!

Regards

Rob

400 Posts! A New Year, A New Template?

Nick speaking,

After an amazing three years on the Blog, everything seems to be going in the right direction. Each year gaining more Hits, more Followers and more Comments, and that is fantastic. 2012 saw some record stats for me, mainly due to 6th Edition coming out and me getting the rule book early, but also due to more awareness of the Blog with the help of more Blog Rolls, Shout Outs and Links from many of you great people. I hope of course, that the content I have been putting out has had something to do with it as well...

So, now I have hit 400 posts, and the question I keep asking myself is, should I get myself a new template for the Blog? Don't get me wrong, I really like what I have, and that is the reason why it has stayed the same so far. I am not one for change to be honest, but it has crossed my mind that maybe my Blog would do better with a new template. Apart from really liking what I already have, I have to admit that I am a little scared of messing up the Blog when I change over, I would hate to lose all my work, and I am not too sure how to incorporate my header into a new template either...

I am sure all would be fine, as many Blogs I follow have changed with no issues, I even see some of them changing the template almost every month, so I am sure I would be able to work it all out. Now this is where you guy's come in. What do you think I should do? Should I get a new template for the Blog or stick with what I have? Please vote on the poll to the left and leave any comments for me below. I am really interested in getting your views on this, including anything else that you might think will improve what I am currently doing.

If you would like to help me continue the upfulness of the Blog, please feel free to put my Logo on your Blog if you have one. Or if I am not on your Blog Roll already, please can you add me! I will of course return the favour as I really appreciate anyone who is willing to share IDICBeer.

Just in case you are unsure of how to add my Logo, all you need to do is follow these four simple steps:

1) Right click on the image below and click 'Save Image As' to save it to your desktop
2) Go to 'Design' in Blogger and click 'Add a Gadget/Widget' and select add a 'Picture'
3) Browse for the IDICBeer logo on your desktop and add it
4) Add this link 'http://idicbeer.blogspot.com' in the link section

Thanks for all your support

Happy 40k New Year!

Nick speaking,

This time last year I was posting about my New Years Resolution being to get more comments on the Blog, and thanks to everyone who has made that happen. I appreciate every single comment I have received, and with each one of them comes more inspiration to keep on posting. So, thanks so much everyone and a Happy New Year to all my long time readers and anyone else who happens to stumble upon this post.

My 40k plans for 2013 are to continue to paint up more of my armies. I am looking at my Fire Dragons, Farseers, War Walkers and Support Weapons for my Eldar. Maybe even my Avatar if I feel brave enough. For my Nids I want to paint up my other two Tyrgons, convert and paint up a Tyranid Prime, and finally get some Hive Guard conversions going. If money allows, I would like to get some 'real' Tervigons, and add some of the Necron units I still haven't played with yet to my army, like Triach Stalkers, oh, and few more Flyers would be nice.

I also really want to go to Games Day this year. I have only ever been once, and that was back in 2002, so I am long overdue to go. It would be cool to maybe meet up with a few of my followers as well as seeing how things have change, I might even consider entering Golden Demon. I'm also looking at entering a couple of tournaments this year if I can, so if anyone knows of any events happening in the Hampshire area of the UK that I could consider, please let me know about them.

So how about you? What are your plans for your 40k 2013?

IDIC is Everywhere!

Nick speaking,

I have had some amazing things done for me on both my Blog and YouTube Channel from around the world. Stuff that really makes you realise how fantastic our community really is. I have recently had an IDIC Grey Knight Paladin named after me by Catattafish, an IDIC Sanguinary Priest named after me by TheKnightKage and I am currently waiting for my IDIC Necron to arrive from TomasGessler. I have received an amazing amount of support from so many people that I can't name them all, but here are a few of my favourite videos for you to check out. The last video in this list is one of my very favourite videos on YouTube, of my mate Dunk receiving a few items in the post, including the Magnetised Belial work I did for him. I think his video sums up how great our community is, as well as making me laugh! Thank you everyone for your support and generosity...

Guess the minis?

Nick speaking,

I have been very fortunate, and discovered that one of my snooker team mates used to be into 40k. He no longer plays or has an interest in it, and has very kindly sent a few minis my way. Most of the minis are from the old Eldar range, including a Falcon, Avatar and a few old Howling Banshees. In the bag of bitz were three models of which I am not sure what they are. Does anyone else know what they are please? They were all painted when he was quite young, so I am sure he won't mind me saying, please excuse the paint job

 Mini One...(?)

Mini Two... (Eldar Guardian, maybe?)

Mini Three...(Eldar Ranger, maybe?)

100 Followers and Blogroll Update!

Nick speaking,

Well, well, I finally made it to one hundred public followers, thank you so much for all the support you have given me so far. I have really enjoyed my Blog and I love the way it encourages me to keep going with all my hobby projects. I know that public following doesn't mean a great deal really, as I can see from my Statcounter how many people are looking at my blog, and are following it by other means. Even so, it's really nice to have hit the one hundred milestone...

So once again, thanks for all the support and if you do follow my blog but haven't hit the follow button yet, please do so now to help me on my way to two hundred! I am happy to put anyone on my Blogroll who has me on theirs, or my linked logo on their site. Just add me to your Blog and stick a comment below with your Blog address and I will gladly add you to mine.

Warhammer 40k hits the BBC News!!

Nick speaking,

40k hits the UK BBC News....

Fan Andrew Ruddick explains how Warhammer 40,000 is played

Warhammer 40,000 - set in a science fantasy universe - has just turned 25. Why are grown men still launching tabletop war? You may have walked past one of the hundreds of Games Workshops on the High Street. You may even have wandered in, especially if you are a teenage boy or the parent of one. If you know your Necrons (virtually invincible soulless metal warriors) from your Dark Eldar (sadistic elfin pirates), the chances are you are one of the dedicated tribe who have signed up to what fans call The Hobby. Most days of the week, on table tops in "hobby centre" shops, in office lunchrooms, and bedrooms, players gather around home-constructed battle fields with miniature ruins and petrified forests. They assemble and paint small model fighters from a chosen army (several to collect) and using dice, tape measures and special rule books, battle rival militia in a fictional science fiction universe set in the 41st Millennium, called Warhammer 40,000. Launched 25 years ago, 40K was so named to distinguish it from traditional fantasy Warhammer of elves and vampires. Both lines, together with a Lord of the Rings brand, continue to attract hundreds of thousands of new fans in Britain and across the world - 70% of sales are abroad.

Dark Eldars on left (photos by Jordan Louis); Necrons on right (photos by AdmGR and Victor Yoon) The appeal is in collecting, assembling and painting the models, for play, which are manufactured in Nottingham (and Memphis, Tennessee) and sold through the Games Workshops chain and by mail order. Blood, torn flesh, grimacing skulls and very large guns and tanks feature prominently in the detailed artwork. Despite the competition from online or console-based gaming, Warhammer continues to thrive, with successful spin-off novels set in the 40K universe. How many other British companies, for example, could report a 40% rise in their latest half-year pre-tax profits?

Fans in the company's dedicated gaming area in Nottingham

A tournament at the company's castle-themed HQ "It's like why theatre remains popular in the age of cinema," says 32-year-old Andrew Ruddick from Cambridge, explaining its enduring appeal. He describes himself as a "relapsed" Warhammer gamer, slipping back into it in his 20s with friends. "There's an intimacy. With tabletop gaming you are there." Several hundred such gamers gather regularly at Games Workshop's Hall of Fame, next to its Nottingham factory, for tournaments. Most, but certainly not all, are male. They play on teams with names like Alfa Geek, Purple Pain and I See Lead People. Heavy rule books or codices (all published by GW) are consulted intently. Templates and tape measures are used to confirm terrain advanced and numbers of casualties. Occasionally a whoop of victory goes up from a table. Kathryn Turner, 13, is playing a doubles match with her father Stephen against two strapping 30-something blokes. The poker-face calm with which she deploys her Tyranids (world-devouring aliens) is impressive.

Craig London "It's fun and I like spending this time with my dad," she says. Her mother Sue is one of the crop of self-confessed Warhammer Widows who spend all day in the cafe. Kathryn admits to sometimes wearing pink on the first day to psych out the male opponents. "I'm moving on to play with Sisters of Battle next," she says - it's an army of fanatical warrior nuns with flamethrowers. The whole aesthetic is, as Andrew Ruddick puts it "very masculine". But the appeal is its epic scale, says Warhammer fan and Marvel X-Men comic writer, Kieron Gillen. "It's a hilariously OTT maximalist universe at an operatic pitch. There are some people who think less is more. Warhammer, conversely, believes that more is always more." Foot-high model Titans can be brought out for particular battles. "Warhammer gone nuts," as my 12-year-old son puts it.

Warhammer game in progress, photo by James Kroesch via Flickr

Figurines are painted by hand Gillen contrasts Warhammer 40K to role-playing fantasy gaming like the online World of Warcraft (the modern equivalent of Dungeons and Dragons). "In Warcraft it's made so there are no bad guys. In Warhammer there are no good guys. They're all bad. It's a universe that's simultaneously nihilistic and joyous. It's incredibly British in that way." Gary Chalk, a 59-year-old fantasy game creator and illustrator, knows all about its Britishness. He used to design Warhammer and Warhammer 40K games in the 1980s and 90s. His trademark wit is evident in Bloodbath at Orc's Drift (an elvish version of the Michael Caine film Zulu) and a naval ship battle he called "All the Dwarves Love a Sailor". Still an enthusiastic table-top gamer, he does, however, believe Games Workshop uses its monopoly on the products to target and exploit increasingly younger fans. The prices for essential models, paints and books are "eyewatering", he says. "They are not selling a hobby. They are selling a craze." Several players say they feel exploited. "You need at least £200 just to set up a half-decent legal army for a game, and if you want a board and scenery to go to play with friends you're looking at least £200 on top of that," says Craig Lowdon, 25, of Crewe

Fans in the company's dedicated gaming area in Nottingham

Women and girls do play, but are outnumbered And Chalk claims the game is now less interesting. "The original rules were about fantasy combat and creating character. Now the rules only work within their imaginary world, with their figures and it cuts out all the other influences." But its legion of fans, including older fans, see a timeless appeal. "[There's] the satisfaction of looking at ranks of badly-daubed Skaven (man-sized anthropomorphic rats) and knowing they're yours and you made them in a real way," says Kieron Gillen. "It's absolutely the part of the brain that made other generations make model trains."

Embolden is a must!

Nick speaking,

I don't mean Embolden on your Warlock, I am talking about an up and coming Blog that I have found called Embolden 40k. Rob over at Embolden is a great guy who has been doing a lot of fantastic posts on his Blog recently, including battle reports, conversions, general Eldar, Necrons and 40k stuff. Please go and have a look at his Blog and give him some support by following...

For those of you who haven't already gone over to check out Robs Blog, here is one of his battle report posts for you to enjoy...

Battle Report: Eldar V Grey Knights (Paladins) 1750

Hey everyone,

After my recent tournament at Caledonian which I’m sure you’re all sick of hearing about! I wanted to get some play testing in against a Paladin list before the Battlefield Birmingham Tournament at the end of this month.

We were playing mission 4 from the rules pack, Supply Drop, which is a strange mission, it’s take and hold with 3 objectives, 1 goes dead centre worth 4pts, with the other 2 worth 3 each which deep strike randomly in, deployment is Dawn of War.

Grey Knights:

Draigo
Libby – quicksilver, shrouding, sanctuary, might of titan
10 Paladins – 4 psycannons, apoth, banner, stave, then a mix of halberds and hammer
1 Paladin – hammer
2 Dreads – autocannons, psybolt ammo
1 Venerable Dread – autocannons, psybolt ammo

Eldar:

Farseer – guide, warding
Autarch – fusion gun, chainsword
6 Dragons in Wave Serpent – scatter lasers, shuriken cannon
6 Dragons in Wave Serpent – scatter lasers, shuriken cannon
5 Avengers in Wave Serpent – scatter lasers, shuriken cannon
5 Avengers in Wave Serpent – bright lance, shuriken cannon
5 Avengers
2 Vypers – scatter laser, shuriken cannon
Falcon – bright lance, holofields
3 War Walkers – 6 scatter lasers
3 War Walkers – 6 scatter lasers

The plan is to totally ignore/hide from the dreadnoughts best I can, I don’t plan on going in reserve, I want maximum turns of shooting, walking on turn1.

We roll for first turn, the Paladins win the roll and choose to go first.

Deployment:
The Paladins roll for the Grand Strategy and make the ven dread and a normal dead scoring.

The Paladin squad and Draigo deploy in the middle, and then trail back to about 8” in from the board edge.

I choose not to deploy anything and will walk on turn1.

Early Game:
The libby walk’s on and moves into the Paladin squad, which then run further into the centre of the board, 2 deads including the ven dread walk in on the left flank, with 1 normal scoring dread in the centre behind a LOS blocking ruined 3 story building. I then move on with the walkers on either flank, everything else moves on in the centre, my shooting is fairly ineffective, I wound a couple of Paladins and take a wound off Draigo. With my army now in light, the Paladins shuffle move of the Paladins lagging behind inc the libby, while the dreads move further infield, the scoring dread moves into the ruin and up a level (still out of sight). The Ven dread opens up into the falcon in cover, stunning it, while the normal dread destroys a dragon serpent, killing 2 dragons in the explosion. I then move up with that squad of dragons and the other squad moves up and disembarks from their serpent, the walkers move infield with the vypers (now guided) shuffle out of LOS from both dreads on the left flank, both Avenger serpents move further right. My shooting is much more effective thanks to the libby failing shrouding! I then throw both dragon squads into the Paladins, wounding draigo twice more! And killed 2 paladins! I both Walker squads and the vypers open up into the Paladins but can only wound 2 more paladins.

Mid Game:
The GK objective deep strikes in, which then scatters about 2” from the central objective that the Paladins are camped on! The Paladins move further into cover in the centre, they dread in the ruin moves up to the top floor, while the dreads on the left flank move infield again, the Paladins open up and kill the 6 man dragon squad, the dread on the top floor stuns the falcon again, the dreads on the left flank kill the remaining dragons. My objective still doesn’t arrive, so I then turbo boost one avenger serpent to the far right behind a ruin, out of LOS from the dreads and paladins, the, the walkers then target the paladin squad again, torrenting the libby and killing a paladin, the Vypers then torrent off Draigo, now my opponents army starts to crumble with the rest of my shooting killing another 2 paladins (now down to about 4 paladins, inc the apoth). The lone paladin deep strikes in, my opponent tries to hide him behind the ruin the dread is in, but it scatters out into the open... then runs towards the central objectives (in cover) the Dreads open up in to the Serpents they can see, they destroy one avenger serpent with bright lance and the remaining empty dragon serpent while the Falcon loses its pulse laser, but can finally move. My objective comes down on my left flank, which I move the falcon onto, the war walkers move up to give it cover, I move the avenger serpent on my right flank to shoot the paladins, I then open up with everything I can into the Paladins I finally kill the unit to a man, then with the final shots I fire into the single paladin, but do no damage.

Late Game:
With very little left, the dreads move towards the centre of the table, shooting my Falcon, taking it’s bright lance off and stunning it, the single paladin moves onto both objectives, while the Dread in the ruin moves and runs down through the levels and into the open heading towards the objectives in the centre. I then make a dash for the central objectives, the Vypers turbo boost to contest both, the wave serpent on my right flank turbo boosts to tank shock the paladin, which passes the test, and stays contesting 1 objective (the 3 pt objective) with walkers on my right flank move infield and run towards the objectives, while the walkers on my left flank shuffle round to protect the falcon. My shooting it brief and all I can do is take a wound of the paladin.

We roll to see if the game continues and it does!

The paladin moves to punch the tank, which it does, knocking the scatter laser off, the dreads close in the central objectives, the non scoring dread destroys the vypers, the ven dread shoots the serpent, doing no damage while the other scoring dread moves and then runs to contest the objectives with the serpent. With not much I can do to stop the contesting, I jump the autarch out the back of the serpent, he fusion guns the scoring dread, destroying it, the war walkers on my left flank open up into the paladin, killing him, the walkers on my right flank move up and shoot the ven dread, getting 5 glancing hits!! Blowing both weapons of and immobilising it! Then with re-rolls it still loses a weapon and is badly shaken...

We then roll to see if the game ends and it does!

It was a close game and with the Battlefield Birmingham rules I win 16-4 by holding both 3pt objectives, while the 4pt objective is contested so worth nothing.

Overall I was happy with how the game went, ignoring the Dreads gave them free rain until I could kill the Paladins, the Farseer was a game changer, my opponent rolled a lot of 3’s when making cover saves! I still made a number of mistakes, not hiding the Falcon turn1 when it moved on, after the game I had another look and there was a space to hide it, so need to be more careful with placement, the bright lance serpent didn’t need to be so close the paladins and if the dread hadn’t destroyed it, the Paladins would have! And a number of silly mistakes that where just me being slightly lazy and wanting to get greedy with shooting turn1, I should of just played for position knowing I wouldn’t do much damage turn1.

More play testing to come!

How do you recommend an army?

Nick speaking,

One great thing about this hobby, is how easy it is to get other people addicted to it! If your anything like me, 40K is always on my mind and I find that my enthusiasm for the game seems to rub off on people around me, well except for the wife, I didn't even bother showing her my Warlocks when they were finished! lol

Now I remember way back when I first started 40k, and when it was time to choose an army of my own. Up until then, I had just played a couple of small games with my buddies Tyranid and Ork armies. Everything 40k was just a minefield to me then, and the truth is, I only chose Necrons as my first army because I liked the picture on the front of the Codex.

As time went by, more and more friends joined my gaming circle, and as yet, none of us have duplicated armies. I suppose, in reality we tried our best to encourage 'new' players to go for armies we never had, after all we will be playing each other every week and although Necrons Vs Necrons, or Blood Angels Vs Blood Angels, would be a novalty, we wouldn't want to do it every week! I am not saying we forced anyone to choose certain armies, but I think as a new player you would prefer to have an army no-one else had for the unique factor alone, anyway.

The question is though, how do you recommend an army?
Lets look at it from a sales persons point of view! The first basic rule of sales is don't sell something to someone that they don't really want or need, you have to ask the correct questions so that they end up with a satisfactory purchase. So on that basis, let's ask some basic questions to get us going.

First, starting with the army itself...
What do you like the look/sound of? Humans, super humans, evil super humans, robots, drones, bugs, girls with high heels, green skin gladiators, elfs with anti grav technology etc etc

Then there's the painting side...
Make sure they know how much painting will be involved, especially if they go the horde army route, also ask what colours they would like their army to be, maybe that will swing them in a certain direction

Next is how they will play on the table...
Do you want a shooty army, assault army, a fast moving army, a big gribbly army, an all rounder army? Do you want your army to play in a certain way related to the fluff? Like Eldar Saim-Hann or Beil-Tann? Or maybe how they deploy, like random deep striking Daemons?

Then there's the 'what do you want from the game' question...
Are you in it to just win it or do you just want to have fun pushing your toys around and rolling dice with your friends? Is it mainly for the painting, or maybe for the converting side of things? etc. etc.

Don't forget the board a terrain situation as well...
Where will you play, at a club with terrain, at friends houses? Will you want your own board, if so do you have the space and/or time to make it and all the terrain

And last but not least, as a 40k player, it is your responability to let them know the gory deatails...
This hobby is going to be expensive, and take up a lot of your free time. Unless you play Space Marines of some sort, GW may leave you behind a bit (How long did I wait for my Necron Codex!) and of course, what is current and the new top tierd Codex now, won't be there for very long...

All in all it is very difficult to recommend an army, and it does come down to a lot of personal choices for someone to go for one army over another. As a 40k player, I like to give all the good and bad points of this wonderful game of ours and let them decide which direction to go for themselves.

New Year Comments

Nick speaking,

Happy New Year to all my readers, thank you so much for staying tuned to my Blog, and for over doubling my viewing figures from the previous year. I hope you have enjoyed the content and will continue to support me in 2012. My new years resolution for the Blog is to try and increase the amount of comments I get on my posts. The problem is, I don't know how to achieve this? I have to admit that I follow many 40k Blogs myself, but only ever comment on a few of them, although I am trying to make more of an effort to comment as much as I can, even if it is just a "nice article" or "looks great" comment. So, what makes you want to post a comment?

Go on, post a comment below and lets find out...

Playing at 2000 Points?

Nick speaking,

You may remember a while back, when I posted up a Poll on what point level you prefer to play at? Without a shadow of a doubt, the top two levels were 1500 and 1750 points. Some of the lower levels like 500 and 750 points, did quite well also. I was a bit surprised that 2000 points clocked in at third place, as I thought it would take top spot! Not so long ago, my buddies and I always played at 1500 points. We would occasionally have bigger games, but not very often. I personally always found making 1500 point lists quite difficult to get all the toys that I wanted. This was probably due to me playing Necrons most of the time, and with two Troops, two units of Immortals and a decent Lord coming in at just over 1100 points with the old Dex, that was probably the reason why!

I suggested that maybe we should up the points level to 1750pts, we were experienced enough to still be able to play a game in an evening and still have time for a chat. So, when we decided to up the points level to 1750 at the beginning of this year, I was really up for the challenge of upping my lists in points and having some fun. I have noticed that 1750 points seems to be a lot easier to make a list work. This is probably due to having enough points to be able to, well lets face it, spam units, or are the words I am looking for, unit redundancy! Having said that, I have also found that 1750 points also challenges me with my unit selections, as it still isn't quite enough points to have ALL the toys I want...

I am currently working on a Tyranid list that includes five Tervigons. It is coming on very slowly, as I gradually buy Carnifex bodies to convert up into Tervies, but I hope to be able to play it one day. Although I can make a list like this at 1750pts, it would be a lot better if I had 2000 to play with! So is it time to suggest 2000pts to my buddies?

Well, actually, there's no need! To my surprise, my buddy suggested it to me the other day! I suppose he is also having trouble getting all his horrible Blood Angel units into his 1750pt list as well lol! After all, two units of ten Sternguard are 500 points and that's without some sort of transport! So, we have now decided to up our points level to 2000pts starting in 2012. We are going to have ago and see how we like it. Initial thoughts, that quickly run through my head for my armies are:

Harlequins ~ Now I can take Mauggy and Eldrad in the same list, yeppy!

Saim-Hann ~ Sadly, it probably will just mean a second, much needed Farseer (Eldrad!)

Eldar Mech/Hybrid ~ More of the same!

Space Wolves ~ I think I will be able to max out on most of the FOC!

Necrons ~ Bring it on!

Nids ~ Need to finish my Tervigons and Gants!

More to come on this, but if you want to find out more about the merits of playing at different point levels, go and check out this great post over at 3++.

40k in Bali?

Nick speaking,

Just an update to let you know that I am going on holiday for three weeks to my wife's home country Indonesia. We will be visiting Jakarta and Bali for a very well deserved break, and I won't be around to look after my Blog. I have, however, scheduled a few posts to go up whilst I am away, but unless I can get to an Internet cafe that doesn't have a snail connection, I won't be able to respond to any comments or emails posted.

As for 40k whilst I am on holiday, I don't believe GW have anything where I am going, but I will try and take a few models to build whilst I am out there if I get the chance, or indeed, if the wife lets me! As for the next few week's, my posts will go up every three to four days and will include a Necron Cities of Death battle report, Eldar psychic power marker ideas and a magnetising Eldar options post. I hope you enjoy the contents of them, and I hope I have a wonderful holiday.

Just to keep this post about 40k, here is a quick picture I took of my currently painted IDIC Hann, Saim-Hann styled Eldar army...

IDICBeer Logo and thanks to Fritz and all!

Nick speaking,

This post was originally designed to let everyone know, that I now have the IDICBeer logo available to anyone who would like to support me by adding it on their Blog. Before that though, I would like to use this opportunity to first thank a few people for the great support I have received so far...

Thank you Fritz for your inspiration to do a blog in the first place, and for your invaluable advice that took out a massive section of the Blog learning curve. Thank you to Ron from From the Warp for his help in the guest post he kindly did for me. Thank you to House of Paincakes for their outstanding work in making a very fun blog and for doing several link back posts for me. Thank you to Kirby from 3++ is the new black for a recent linked article he did and for his inspiration to do an IDICBeer logo myself. Thank you to everyone that has already added my Blog to their Blog roll, if you are not on mine then let me know and I will add it. Thank you to all my readers and followers for your comments and continued support. Thank you to all the other inspirational blogs that are out there including BoLS, Black Matt and Space Wolves, and of course, a big thank you to anyone who is willing to put my logo on their Blog for me.

With that done and hopefully I haven't missed anyone! If you would like to put my Logo on your Blog I would really appreciate it. Just in case you are unsure of how to do it, all you need to do is follow these four simple steps...

Next 40k Movie?

Nick speaking,

Being my birthday today and all that, I thought I would share what my birthday wish would be if GW were to ever make another movie!

Imagine if GW said that the first Ultramarines movie was a great success, and now they are going to commit a huge amount of money on a brand new film. So much money that it will have amazing graphics, amazing sound effects and an amazing story! What would you like to see in this new movie?

Personally I would love to see the Eldar on the big screen, I think they have allot of potential for a massive story, lots of great fluff to work on and all the Aspect Warriors could give so much to a movie. I would love to see all those amazing anti Grav tanks in action, with Fire Dragons, Dire Avengers, Striking Scorpions, Vypers, War Walkers, The Avatar of Khaine and of course the Farseers! Just how would a Farseer Doom and Fortune on the big screen?

But who would I love to see them battle against? Easy, only one option for me, Necrons!

Oh well, back to the usual birthday treats...

What armies would you like to see in the next GW movie?
