Necron 'Doom Cron' List

Nick speaking,

I have been looking at something a bit different for my Necrons lately, and it's the Heavy Support section that has taken my eye! I usually run with Annihilation Barges, which are in no doubt of being totally awesome for their points, but what about Doomsday Arks? I know they are a lot of points, but boy is that big gun good, especially when combined with a Triarch Stalker to make it twin linked! Talking of Triarch Stalkers, I onced asked the question on here about what gun to take, well I am 100% convinced the Twin Linked Gauss Cannon is the way to go, with the range of the gun being the main advantage in keeping the Stalker safe...

Luckily, I magnetised my two Ghost Arks into Doom Arks, so that is my starting point of the list, and to keep the Doom theme going, I will go for a Doom Scythe as well to top off the heavy choices. With no Ghost Arks for my Warriors to repair with my Overlord, and for another change up, I will exchange the Overlord for a Destroyer Lord for my Wraiths. I have used this fantastic combo before, but not as much as I would like. That leaves Elites free for my Triarch Stalker and some points left over for some other toys. Five Destroyers and a few Tomb Blades for distraction and we are all done...

Necron Super Phalanx at 2k!

Nick speaking,

Time to move my 'Super Phalanx' list up to 2000 points. I have had a lot of success with the 1750 point version, but now that my buddies and I have moved up to 2000 points, I need to beef it up a little. With the tactics locked and loaded for the army, I don't feel like I really need to make too many changes to the list, but with the original list not having any Elite choices, I thought that would be a nice way to build up the list. Enter my recently painted and hardly used Triarch Stalker...

I think the Stalker will fit in the list quite well, as the army has a reasonable amount of AV13 already, and sort of making the rest of the army twined linked, sounds good to me. I know it will probably be a priority target, and that is why I have gone for the Heavy Gauss Cannon as the preferred weapon. The range of the gun will mean I can maybe hide it a bit at the back of the army or behind terrain, trying to get a good arc of fire. The extra range over the more popular Melta option, will also give me a much lacked long range gun for the list as well.

With one less Warrior, I have about one hundred points left over and an obvious second Elites choice, Deathmarks! I will move the Veiltek Cryptek from the Immortal squad in the Night Scythe, to join a unit of five Deathmarks, and the list is done...

Triarch Stalker Painted

Nick speaking,

Here is my magnetised Triarch Stalker all painted up with the three different weapon options. I also converted it up so that it is hovering instead of standing as I think it matched the rest of the army better. The front two legs move up and down on the joint so that I can have different poses and rest the front leg on the ground if needed. I hope you like it...

How to Magnetise a Necron Triarch Stalker

Nick speaking,

OK, so after you have taken all the bits of the sprue and cleaned them up, start assembling the model, up until the point of the weapons sections that are on the last two pages of the instruction book. You may want to consider leaving some of the bits unglued for painting, which is what I did with my driver. Once you have done all that and you come to the gun holder piece that sits under the Stalker, then we will start to magnetise. Start by gluing a small piece plastic or plasti-card (I used an old cut up base) to the underside of that section as pictured below...

We have glued this section in so that we can glue a magnet onto the other side for the gun to magnetise to. Just cut off the piece of plastic on the gun that would normally fit into the hole and that bit is done. I am using these magnets in this section...

Next, use a 2mm drill to drill out a hole in the front of the gun after removing the plastic tab. Glue a 2x1mm magnet in the hole and then into the holes already on the rear sections of the three gun fronts as pictured...

Continuing on with the 2x1mm magnets and your drill piece, drill out the holes that are already in place for the side sections and into the sides of the Gauss Weapons. Then cut of the tabs and put a magnet in place of them on all the other side section bits, again as pictured below...

That's it, all done and ready to go...

Next Necron Project Results

Nick speaking,

Thank you to everyone who participated in my recent Poll about what Necron unit I should get next. I was using the poll to get your opinions of course, and had full intentions to go with whatever the poll results were. As you can see below, the top three results were a second Night Scythe, Deathmarks and a Triarch Stalker. It was very close between them with only two votes separating first and third. So my next purchase is going to have to be one of these three.

I wasn't surprised to see that a second unit of Wraiths received a good amount of votes, and it was also nice to see Tomb Blades got the same amount of votes as them. As my followers will already know, I have already managed to get my hands on some old Destroyers from eBay, who will be standing in as Tomb Blades for me anyway...

Which Necron Unit Should I Get Next?

Tomb Blades                                9 (10%)

Triarch Stalker                             14 (16%)

Praetorians                                   1 (1%)

Lychguard                                    3 (3%)

Deathmarks                                  15 (18%)

A second unit of Wraiths             9 (10%)

A second Night Scythe                16 (19%)

A third Ghost Ark                        2 (2%)

A third Annihilation Barge          7 (8%)

Aegis Defense Line                     7 (8%)

So it's between a Night Scythe, Deathmarks and Triarch Stalker! I am currently using my Pariahs as stand in Deathmarks, so I don't think I am in any hurry to get them at the moment, and I have one Night Scythe that I am already playing. The Triarch Stalker a brand new unit that I have never had any experience with before, and as a long time Necron player, a new unit is just too exciting to turn down...

New Necron Wave - My Thoughts!

Nick speaking,

Just a few of my thoughts on the new wave of Necron models...

The HQ's look cool, shame they are Finecast! As the cloak of my Stormlord has broken off three times already, I can see no hope for the cloak on this dudes arm at all!

The new Spyder does look sweet, but I already have six old ones already! I still haven't decided if I should splash out for three new ones or find three old ones on eBay for the last unit, I think I will wait and see them in the flesh before I make my mind up. Not sure why they have put them on small flying bases though? I see the Tomb Blades are on small bases as well? I think I will up size all mine to match in with the rest of the army. The Tomb Blades look exactly like everyone has converted them to be, which is great all round.

Same for the Stalker really, all those ghost Ark conversions were spot on. I have to admit, I never did like the idea of the Stalker walking on the spine things, I am not a fan of the model design really, I would prefer something hovering like the rest of the army.

Again the Wraiths look nice, but the Whip Coils look like such a weak point and very vulnerable, at least they are not Finecast! I will again, wait to pass full judgement until I see them in the real. I already have six old Wraiths, so another unit of the new minis is not out of the realms of possibility.

So what do you think? Will the new Wraiths and Spyders match in with my old models? Or is it time to start stalking eBay?
