Nick speaking,
I am sure that almost everyone who played the previous Necron Codex would have owned at least one Necron Lord. After all, Resurrection Orb Lords were the bread and butter of any Necron army, and with only the Destroyer Lord and C'tan as a second option, it is pretty obvious that GW would have sold a very large amount of foot Lords. I myself have three, which were almost the very first models I painted and converted...
Having sold so many Lords, of course, meant the Lords HAD to get dumbed down in the new book to make everyone buy the new HQ models. OK, Lords can make good stand in models, which is fine at first, but if your anything like me, you will want to get the new models at some point. I mean, who couldn't resist Imotekh...
Anyway, the real reason behind this post, is to try and find out if anyone out there is successfully using Necron Lords in their army, other than stand in models? It seems to me, that when looking at the Royal Court options, the Crypteks and their Staffs/Wargear win hands down for single wounded models. So is anyone really paying the points for Lords instead of Crypteks? and if so, how are they performing?

The only way I use them so far is for the Warrior Blob:

I run 1 with my lych Gard, I found that the over lord got picked out in HtoH too offen.
ReplyDeleteNot used any Necron Lords and for the foreseeable furture I don't intend to. I think they don't add a lot to the army for the points. They are not combat monsters and taking a res orb only increases R.P by 16%, though costing a rough 80 points to do so.
ReplyDeleteInteresting, thanks for that, nice Blog btw, now following :D
ReplyDeleteYes, having a Warsythe/Mindchackle that can't be targeted is something I have not considered. Thanks
ReplyDeleteYes mate, that was my initial thoughts, but It seems that some people are finding them useful. Not being able to target them in the unit is a consideration!
ReplyDeleteMarmite-Lords :)

400/100*16 is how many points a res orb will spare in a maxed unit of lychguards. I think that adding a necron lord with res orb (and scythe + scarabs for some punch) could be a good idea.
ReplyDeleteSounds like it might be worth a try =)
ReplyDeleteI can see a uses for them, like in large warrior squads with relentless and in combat orientated squads to add michshackle and a warscythe. But like Mercer said it's expensive for what they do.
ReplyDeleteI think I will have a go with one with some Lychguard like Rattler25 suggested, sounds like fun :D
ReplyDeleteThey'll something different to the list thats for sure and their rules do look fun and quite effective tbh :)
ReplyDeletei use orb mineshacle with 10 tesila imortals
ReplyDeleteorb is awsome, i have had them in no cover and taking there first real casalty in turn 3, it is a realiy good distractian coming up the flank.
