Nick speaking,
Call me old school or what, but so far I really haven't got behind the whole Unbound, Formations and Allies thing that 7th Edition offers, mainly due to my small gaming group of friends who do not have a plethora amount of models to play with, and have a limited amount of time and money to spend on making new models, but what the hell, I think it is time to embraced the adventure...
So, stepping out side my door into the big wide world, and I think I want to start with Unbound. I know that there are plenty of options with detachments and Allies to avoid Unbound, but I am thinking of a particular army of mine that I think would really work in the Unbound format, my sixty strong Flayed One Army, which I will post about in the near future.
For now though, I would love to know how are you finding all the new ways of making armies these days? Has it affected your gaming group? Are you finding yourself needing a load of new toys to keep up with everyone? What impact has it had on your gaming experience?

Two weeks ago I showed you some 32mm scale miniatures. Lately I've been
painting not only fantasy heroes but also their enemies :) I don't know why

I think unbound works best when it is taken in the spirit of the game. It's easy to make "broken*" (*=or extremely competitive) lists with the general CAD/formation/detachment system. Unbound at least has some slight negatives!
ReplyDeleteI am using unbound for my LVO friendly list, and running a dreadmob + an ork kustom stompa. It means I have 17 walkers and only 2 infantry (big mek and painboy) in a 2k list. Super fun!
Thanks for the comment mate, yeah fun is what it's all about, and that's why I think unbound will work well in my Flayed One list, it's an assault army, with a few troops as a token gesture, I can now make it a full assault army now, potentially with no guns at all, and that is so far out for Necrons, it has to be fun :D
ReplyDeleteAlways glad to comment. Somehow you manage to respond to pretty much every comment, tweet, post. You are a machine! :)
ReplyDeleteIf you play in tournaments, just look for "friendly" or narrative events. They usually allow unbound, and everyone has super fluffy and fun lists! (painting is usually 1/3 to 1/2 the score as well!)
ha ha well, we try =D I only play with my buddies, so we do a lot of list changes to mix things up, so I won't have any issues there :D
